Hiking in Greenland
Hiking in Greenland
1 - 7 day hiking courses is organized as a real hike and the guide, shows how to travel through the wilderness in a traditional Greenlandic manner. Along the way we gather and capture much of our own food and we will gain insight to which plants that are edible. The two easy hiking routes is across the mountains and on the way we fish arctic char in the rivers. It is traditional in Greenland to fish arctic char using only your hands or with a single fishing line without a flyfishing rod. Most hikers are joining todays gear weight reduce race, forgetting it can be reduced a lot more by learning how to find and use the fresh ingredients given to us by nature, and same time lifting the level of adventure and meals.
Wilderness trekking adventures are not only for experts, by ajusting the daily distances, using expedition equipment and experienced guides most people are able join us. The daily hiking distances are short, giving enough time to experience everything from catching dinner, picking berries, photo-safari or simply enjoying the grand wilderness.
Bring: Good shoes/boots + a pair of especially light shoes, 2-3 extra pairs of socks, waterproof rainwear, toiletries and some warm clothes. No prior hiking experience is necessary.
In travelling to Greenland you should take time to see the hot springs, the ice cap and Hvalsey. Historically, we are in the land of Eric the Red, a Viking explorer. In year 1000, around 3000 settlers lived in this area, but 500 years later they had vanished into thin air, and it is still a mystery, how and why they disappeared. The ruins of that time can still be found all over South Greenland. Contact us and we help arranging a package tour including accomandation.

Equipment:
The weather in Greenland can vary a lot. Although the weather is usually lovely in summer it is not unusual for it to change from heat wave to cold and wet weather in just a matter of hours. It is important to bring clothes for any occasion. You should also bring a pair of hiking boots and it is best that you break them in before the trip. Remember that you must carry all your personal equipment plus your part of the supplies and tents and other equipment for the camp. Please do not bring too much, your personal equipment should fit into a 35-40 litre backpack. Instead bring some soap to wash socks and t-shirts from day to day. You can borrow a bagpack and tent form us for the trip. When signing up we send you the information pack with advice for the wilderness and a list of equipment for the trip. We recommend that you read this material thoroughly.

Your other luggage can be stored at Narsaq or Qaqortoq while we are gone. If you wish, you can bring a smaller backpack/bag to keep it in. Note that we cannot take responsibility for your luggage.
