Kayaking in Greenland -Tasermiut
Kayaking in Greenland - Tasermiut
South Greenland offers varied nature and awesome 1000 m vertical mountain walls. Rivers run in the lush valleys between the 2000 m high mountains into the fjord. Places like Qinngua Valley and Kloster Valley are ideal places for fly fishing and trekking. The destination of the trip is the spectacular Sermeq Glacier and its 1300 m, practically, vertical ice edge which meets the sea at the end of Tasermiut Fjord. At this place we might see large pieces of the glacier ice tongue breaking off.
The southern Greenland fjord system is perfect for kayaks. Alpine mountains, the ice cap and paddling between icebergs at the edge of Tasermiut fjord makes this trip a first-class experience. There is plenty of opportunity to admire this colourful fauna and animal life, and the guide shows how to move in the wilderness.
Along the way we gather and capture some of our own food, gaining insight to which plants that are edible. Most kayakers are into the gear weight and volume reduce thing, forgetting it can be reduced a lot by learning how to find and use the fresh ingredients given to us by nature. Thereby we can also gain delicious meals and connect closer to the environment. The population of arctic char is very high, and together we cook the ingredients over an open fire.
You don’t need to be an expert in order to join us, but the trip demands that you are kayaking and that you are fit, since we paddle average 25 - 30km a day. At this time of year, the water temperature is about 5 degrees and the daily paddle distances might vary. On our unique campsites, we prepare arctic chars and supplies on the campfire and turn it into gourmet outdoor dinners. We will stay in expedition tents. The trip will be carried out as smoothly as possible on terms of the wilderness.
Bring high spirit.
