Kayaking in Greenland -Tasermiut
Kayaking in Greenland - Tasermiut
South Greenland offers varied nature and awesome 1000 m vertical mountain walls. Rivers run in the lush valleys between the 2000 m high mountains into the fjord. Places like Qinngua Valley and Kloster Valley are ideal places for fly fishing and trekking. The destination of the trip is the spectacular Sermeq Glacier and its 1300 m, practically, vertical ice edge which meets the sea at the end of Tasermiut Fjord. At this place we might see large pieces of the glacier ice tongue breaking off.
The southern Greenland fjord system is perfect for kayaks. Alpine mountains, the ice cap and paddling between icebergs at the edge of Tasermiut fjord makes this trip a first-class experience. There is plenty of opportunity to admire this colourful fauna and animal life, and the guide shows how to move in the wilderness. Along the way we gather and capture some of our own food, gaining insight to which plants that are edible, connecting us closer to the environment. This way the volume and weight can be reduced a lot, and we gain fresh ingredients. The population of arctic char is very high.
You don’t need to be an expert in order to join us, but the trip demands that you are kayaking and that you are fit, since we paddle average 25 - 30 km a day. At this time of year, the water temperature is about 6 degrees and the daily paddle distances might vary. On our unique campsites, we prepare arctic chars and supplies on the campfire and turn it into gourmet outdoor dinners. We will stay in expedition tents.
The trip will be carried out as smoothly as possible on terms of the wilderness. Bring high spirit.

We will paddle about 27 km to Kuussuaq River where we will stay overnight, on the way we cross the 1.7 km wide fjord at Niagornaq. Fishing in this river is extraordinary, but many locals go fishing here. Depending on the weather we might stop after 17 km in Tasiusaq.

There are many ruins of the Norsemen period a few kilometers up the valley, which is perfect for a hiking trip. Next morning we paddle about 20 km towards the great glacier, which rises about 1400 m above sea level. We camp about 5 km from the glacier.
Day 9. -11
After forgetting the everyday life back home, a new day presents itself by being in the wilderness on its own terms. Tasrmiut is really a fantastic place on earth, and paddling out of the fjord we make new campsites, and in this way we will see it all. Here close to the Cape Farewell area, paddling the 25-30 kilometer daily distances starts out early in the mornings, where the Arctic wind is useually calm in the fjord.
Day 12.
Arriving in Nanortalik we get a hot shower and a sauna. At the hostel we sit on chairs, enjoying an ice cold Greenlandic beer accomplished with a musk ox meal, and later on a soft bed will be waiting.
Day 13.
Helicopter/plane to Copenhagen.
On request we can arrange a round trip in South Greenland including accomandation. In travelling to Greenland you should take time to see the hot springs, the ice cap and Hvalsey. Historically, we are in the land of Eric the Red, a Viking explorer. In year 1000, around 3000 settlers lived in this area, but 500 years later they had vanished into thin air, and it is still a mystery, how and why they disappeared. The ruins of that time can still be found all over South Greenland.
