Trekking in Lapland
Trekking in Lapland
5 day trekking course - trips in Padjelanta with guide
In early summer the midnight sun arrives, and later in the hiking season the Northern Lights dance under the Arctic sky. The flowers and colourful Arctic chars glisten as jewels and bring contrast to the polar mountain scenery. Besides eagles, reindeer, moose and Arctic foxes there are human shy lynx in the area. If we are lucky we will see them from the distance, so bring a powerful zoom. Exploring the wilderness since 1981 - this easy trekking route is located in one of the most breathtaking areas in Lapland.
The hiking course is organized as a real hike, and the guide shows how to move in the wilderness. Along the way we learn how to gather and capture some of our own food and we will gain insight to which plants that are edible. Thereby the weight in the backpack is considerably reduced, gaining delicious meals and connecting us close to the environment. Joining the gear weight reduce thing, most experienced hikers still carry the weight of all the supplies.
By helicopter we reach the most spectacular mountain area, reducing the daily hiking distances, so it is possible to experience everything from catching dinner, picking berries to photo-safari, or simply enjoying the grand wilderness. It is a huge experience to be in the Samick wilderness, and we spend time with everything that comes with the wilderness. Under the Arctic sky, the fresh ingredients we cook over the open fire are the ideal accompaniment to our fish, and in the rivers we find the finest drinking water.

Day 1.
The group gathers. We go through our personal equipment before the helicopter transfer into the mountain world. Together we set up camp and stay the night in expedition tents. We cook the ingredients over an open fire under the Arctic sky, and in rivers we have the finest drinking water.
Day 2.
During the day’s hike down the river we take brakes and enjoy the wilderness. Here in the country of the midnight sun, the moose and other animals are most active in the early morning hours and late in the evening. After a few days you forget the everyday life back home and a new day presents itself by being in the wilderness on its terms.
Day 3-4.
We enjoy the amazing view while we hike along the river. We have plenty of time for relaxing and late in the day we set up camp and cook campfire meals. When we have finished eating the wilderness calls again and you can spend your evening going on photo-safari or fishing. In the midnight sun the moose and other animals come down from the mountains to drink. Before we settle down for the night, we enjoy each other’s company at the campfire with something warm to drink.
Day 5.
We hike the last kilometres on a hiking trail to the spot where the helicopter picks us up. After a well-deserved bath with a hot sauna we finish the trip with a delicious meal and a good night’s sleep in a cabin.
